Is Single Mature Women Dating Younger Men Just A Passing Trend?
I tend to think that single, mature women dating younger guys is a social trend that’s here to stay. It’s certainly a switch around from the more accepted notion of older men taking a younger bride. And, it appears that society is changing it’s viewpoint as well. In over 25% of today’s marriages the woman is older than the man she weds.
Celebrities, and perhaps the Hollywood culture, have played significant roles in this dating and marriage evolution. A number of well-known actresses such as Susan Sarandon, Demi Moore and Madonna have married younger men. These women have put their stamp of approval on the single, mature women dating younger men concept.
But, society has changed as well. Not too long ago, women married young and the commitment was for life. The nuclear family unit was the basis for society and anything that deviated from this norm was taboo. Therefore, there weren’t many opportunities for mature females dating younger guys.
However, since the divorce rate seems to be ever-increasing in our society, there are any number of women in their late 30’s and 40’s who are seeking new partners for relationships. And, when they look at men their own age, they often don’t like what they see for a number of reasons.
To begin with, men who are in a similar age-range are caught up with their own careers and other pursuits. They are less likely to be supportive of a woman’s career. Now that more women have moved into managerial and entrepreneurial roles, they sometimes require their partners to be “the man behind the woman”. Most men their own age are hesitant to take on this secondary role, they are reluctant to play second fiddle!
Added to this, single mature women dating men their own age are likely to be disappointed in the physical aspects of the relationship. It’s a fact that a woman peeks sexually in her late 30’s, and well into her 40’s, she’s in her sexual prime. A man, on the other hand, begins to loose steam at this age. He’s just not able to keep up with her surging sexual needs and desires.
However, quite naturally, younger men find older women, newly-confident in their sexual prowess, to be very attractive and exciting. Mature women know what they want in bed and can communicate that to their lovers!
Mature women dating younger men can also provide the guys with a sense of financial security or stability that allows them to take risks with their careers. I can think of a younger man who was able to pursue a career as a concert pianist because his older female lover was able to cover their living expenses while he became known in his field.
Other men have been able to pursue graduate school or start businesses due to the financial support of their older girlfriends. For years, many women have benefited from the generosity of older male partners, now men are able to do so as well and society seems to think it’s quite O.K.
So, while I’m sure there will be many varying opinions about the question of whether mature women dating younger men is a passing fad or not, I tend to believe that it’s here to stay. I think it will continue to flourish as society’s expectations about male/female roles change.
After all, if a romantic relationship between a single mature woman and a younger guy is mutually beneficial to both parties involved, why shouldn’t it be encouraged?…What do you think??
