COUGAR WOMEN FUELING SEXY LINGERIE SALES

Who would have guessed it, but, women over 35 are driving a boom in sales of sexy underwear in what Australian retailers have dubbed the “cougar effect”.

Sexy Cougar Town

In Australia, retailers say that purchases have skyrocketed over the last year as ever increasing numbers of older women are stocking their wardrobes with eye-catching, sexy items.

Shows such as Cougar Town are being credited for inspiring the trend.

“It’s fantastic and we’re catering to it,” said Sirie Palmos, spokeswoman for online lingerie retailer hottie.com.au.

“It was the same when Sex and the City came out … and Ally McBeal.”

This trend is mirroring similar patterns in Great Britain, where department store Debenhams recently revealed its lingerie sales amongst 40-something women has risen 117 percent in six months.

The store has also attributed to much of the increase to pop culture role models like Courteney Cox’s character Jules Cobb in Cougar Town and Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones from Sex and the City.

Cougar Women are on the Prowl for Cubs

YOUNGER MEN WATCH OUT… THE COUGARS ARE OUT!

Cougars looking for younger menThe trend that has sparked a hit television show and empowered older women to take control of their sexuality will culminate in the crowning of Miss (or should that be Ms?) NSW Cougar.

Glamorous 40-something Courteney Cox – star of the new show Cougar Town – is the international face of a craze that is sweeping the state.

Women have been chasing older, rich men for years thinking they will find love. But they should be going for younger men,” Cougar Convention organiser Rich Gosse said.

“Younger men like older women because they can learn from them.

Cougars have life experience, are sexual, want fun and can train cubs.”

About 27 per cent of women between 40 and 54 in Australia are single. In 1986, only 19 per cent were single.

Social commentator Bernard Salt said cougars have occurred as women have become empowered.
