Would the Real Cougar Please Stand Up!
Today I would like to share with you this article that I found that puts a very different slant on the word ‘cougar’.
So with all of this talk about cougar women, where are there guys? Are the cougar men ‘cubs’ and ‘cougar hunters’? Is there a word for the ‘real cub’?
Supposedly Hollywood grasped the term ‘cougar’ from a Canadian catch phrase that originated in local bars. Celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, Madonna, and now Courtney Cox have been labeled ‘Cougars.’ The catch phrase apparently was started by younger men at bars and other social functions who noticed particular women. These women had certain confidence, youthful spirit, charm, and allure.
The younger guys noticed that these women tended to gravitate and peruse other guys there age for whatever reason. Cougar is supposed to mean those types of women.
So what about the men? Sure, Demi is a Cougar but what is Ashton then? The words ‘cub’ and ‘cougar hunter haven’t stuck as well as the Cougar term – why not?
Most guys who are attracted to cougar women don’t usually use either terms when referencing who they are. Most of the men ( any age ), will tell you that they just are attracted to mature women who are like them.
There is really no ‘official’ name for the men that has resonated into mainstream as well as Cougar has. However, the term ‘cougar guys’ and ‘cougar men’ have been gaining popularity as search terms in Google and Yahoo. What then is a ‘cougar guy’?
It could be considered as subjective and controversial of a word as cougar women. However, it most likely would be countered by the cougar culture, particularly – “Real Cougar Women and Men/Guys.”
They might be labeled as shallow men who just want to have promiscuous relationships or one-night-stands.
However, if you look at some real cougar relationships it’s usually the opposite. The guy is usually very respectful, youthful, confident, knowledgeable and insightful. So it seem as though there are many similarities with these relationships and particular culture. The women surely have made a spot of attention in society, but will there be a group of cougars that name a ‘real male cougar’?
